Guns and more

Permanent Linkby Jack on Sat Sep 26, 2009 10:04 pm

Did some range work today - getting the groups at 7 yds tightened up. Progress continues.

Right now I'm working with a .22 and neck shots, so accuracy is key.

The question is - big dots or regular sites? The big dots encourage speed, which is useful for the weapon. However, the downside is a loss of precision. Smaller dots on the front site permit precision shots at a distance, but deprive one of the enhanced speed offered by the big dot on the front site. Decisions, decisions.

More ammo is available. Has everyone stocked up, or is this the eye of the hurricane before more motivated buying? I suspect we'll see a more dangerous social environment as the economy tightens. The news reported three males who attempted to rob two young teens. They took their skateboards, and when the teens revealed they had no money, the thugs beat them. All this during a period when things are still fairly pleasant.

Will society go feral? I suspect so.

You can still get plenty of accuracy with big dots. This video was done with XS big dots.

I think accuracy would be the more important aspect. Saves on time (don't have to hang around hoping for a better shot, or, alerting others to your prescence(sp?), saves on ammo (I would bet that there won't always be an unlimited supply available), and gets rid of the problem permanently.
Will society go feral? Oh, yeah. Bigtime. And, once that cat is out of the bag, there won't be a bag big enough to recapture them all.
Society, as we know it now, will cease to exist. Self-control is not always fun or appreciated, and any excuse to completely abandon that virtue will be acceptable.

Jack, I've been considering adding fast acquisition sights to my Sig and I wanted to clarify if these are what you're referring to: XS 24/7 Express Sight Set Sig P225, P226, P228, P229, SP2009, SP2340, Springfield XD Steel Blue Tritium Big Dot

http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?p ... ber=545788

Does this procedure require a gunsmith?

A review of a similar XS product mentioned a poor fitting rear sight, any thoughts?
